Case postponed to January 2020 as DNA results are still outstanding

State prosecutor Luanda Ngcobo asked for a postponement to January 9 2020 to obtain a date for the case to be heard in Johannesburg high court following the outstanding DNA results of the kidnapping case of six year old Amy’Leigh de Jager.


Amy was taken in the arms of her mother, Angeline, outside the gates of Laerskool Kollegepark, September 2. A ransom scheme was set in motion by the kidnappers demanding money.


Fortunately the young girl was found the next day by a neighborhood couple who took her to the nearest police station which led the arrest of four people.


Tharina Human, 27, Pieter van Zyl, 50 and Bafokeng Molemohi, 24 and Laetitia Nel 40, were arrested in connection of kidnapping Amy.


The bail of R25,000 was granted for Laetitia Nel, 40, ahead of the co-accused, , who made a brief court appearance on Wednesday.


Van Zyl and Human were denied bail, while Molemohi abandoned his bail application. At a previous court appearance, the state said he was in the country illegally.


The mother of two was given bail with conditions and restrictions which includes reporting to the Vanderbijlpark police station every Wednesday, she cannot skip the province, or interfere with the case nor she is not allowed to contact state witnesses.
