American comedian and actress Mo’Nique is suing Netflix for racial and gender discrimination.
Netflix offered the comedian $500,000 (7 363 900,00 South African Rand ) for a comedy special. Reportedly, the same streaming service offered Amy Schumer $11 million (161 987 100,00 South African Rand), with Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle, earning $40 million (589 096 000,00 South African Rand) and $60 million (883 644 000,00 South African Rand) respectively.
She felt disrespected by the deal that was offered to her, not considering her prolific resume of comedic career.
The actress confirmed the news on social media, writing to fans that she’s trying to hold the streaming service accountable for pay discrimination.
The actress accuses the streaming giant of giving a “biased, discriminatory” offer for a one-hour comedy special.
