Police union boss Zwelinkosi Reuben Mdletshe alongside Robert Sherriff arrested in pursuit to cover up their corruption scandals, the Hawks said on Tuesday.
In an investigation that commenced in September, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) CEO and Robert Sherriff, are linked to an alleged plot to kidnap and murder prominent union officials after the alleged murder plot was stabilized when a man said to have been hired to carry out the killings, was implicated.
According to Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the arrested man was discovered as a Lesotho national by the name of Neo Letele.
Letele was arrested on Novermber 6 in Kempton Park as the 'middle man'.
“Their pursuit comes in the wake of an apparent elaborate plot to kidnap and murder current serving members within the leadership of Popcru,” said Mulaudzi.
“The two suspects, Mdletshe and Sherriff, were arrested by members of the Hawks serious corruption investigation unit and they are appearing at Kempton Park today,” said Capt Dineo Sekgotedi.
Investigations are still in process for more findings.
The middle man has appeared in court twice and is due to appear again on Wednesday November 20 for a formal bail application.
